Resize your partitions with Partition Magic
Need to repartition your hard disk, this article tells you how to resize partitions with Partition Magic, and gives you some advice before you do it.
Partition Magic is a convenient shareware, which allows you to manage your hard drive without destroying data. The shareware does exactly what it's supposed to do - add and resize partitions on a hard drive disk that is not blank and Partition Magic is an essential tool if you would like to avoid backing up and reinstalling your Operating System when you want to add a secondary Operating System to your computer or when you simply want to reorganize your gargantuan hard disk drive to suit your needs better. Partition Magic also helps convert file system types and fix partition table errors, But beware, the bigger the hard disk drive, or the smaller the free space, the longer the shareware is going to take.
Most partition software may attempt to write to data area of your hard disk. Repartitioning a hard drive is possible but hazardous for you may lose your data, so you may back up your important data. You could do it by attaching an external CD/DVD writer or hard drive via a USB port. After that, you can resize your partitions with some shareware such as Partition Magic, now owned by Symantec. Remember do not delete a partition with data on it. All of your data will be lost.
With Windows XP, you should keep at least 10% of the C: drive free (preferably 20%), and never have less than 1GB free (preferably 2GB). You may need to get some temporary relief by running Windows' disk clean-up utility, and perhaps by moving the My Documents folder to a different drive. You can do this by right-clicking the folder, selecting Properties and then Move. I suggest you keep the folder name the same. The Microsoft Knowledge Base explains how to do it in an article called How to Change the Default Location of the My Documents Folder. With Windows 2003 Server; it may be disappointed for Partition Magic cannot work with Windows 2003 Server.
